Lenovo Plans to Make Inroad into the US Smartphone Market; Introduces Smartphone using Intel's Chip in China

- Lenovo's North American chief said at the Consumer Electronics Show held in Las Vegas that the company will foray into the US Smartphone market, according to a January 10, 2012 report by Reuters. Lenovo's share in overall US PC market reaches approximately 7%, according to the same source. It is reported that the company is working on establishing relationships with US distributors as well as operators, such as AT&T, Sprint, and Verizon. The company did not give further details of a specific time frame for a US launch.

- Meanwhile, Lenovo plans to release a Smartphone in the Chinese market using Intel's latest chip, according to a January 11, 2012 report by Reuters. The Smartphone is slated for launch in the second quarter of 2012.
